Pay no attention to that lease ad!

We all know the drill - a loud mouth car dealer blows our ears out (if everything was as it seems, would they really need to do that?!) while he touts a $99 monthly lease deal on the latest hot car to come out. What most don’t know is that a very small percentage, if any, of those who were gullible enough to venture into the dealership after getting seduced into thinking they actually were going to drive off the lot at $99 per month, will. What most also don’t know, is that the dealership knows full well that close to none of those walking through their door will actually end up driving that vehicle for the advertised payment. Well then, isn’t that false advertising? The short answer unfortunately is not at all, because most were too distracted to remotely understand the garbled verbiage that’s blown through at the end of the ad. Once at the dealership, reality unfortunately rears its ugly head and smacks most in the face like a meat tenderizer! What do you mean you didn’t have the $6,000 down payment that’s in the fine print and needed to support such a low payment?! So you’re saying that you’re not a recent college graduate and/or an active military serviceperson and/or currently driving the same make of vehicle which you’re now interested in leasing to qualify for those capitalized cost reduction rebates which were also figured into the fine print in order to subsidize the $99 payment! Wow, so your credit wasn’t the best and you didn’t qualify for the rate this particular lease deal was figured at, huh!

The bottom line is that you’ll never look at, or listen to a lease ad quite the same way again when you realize that a dealership could technically advertise a $5.00 monthly payment on a lease if they wanted to, so long as you pay almost all of the cost up front; have perfect credit; qualify for all the rebates and the restrictions don’t apply to you
